Traditional Oriental Medicine

Traditional Oriental Medicine is a comprehensive system of health care with a holistic philosophy that integrates body, soul, and mind as one.  An ongoing medical tradition reaching back more than 3,000 years, TOM utilizes a number of different modalities including acupuncture, herbal remedies, dietary therapies, gua sha, cupping, moxibustion, breathing exercises (Qigong), and meditation.  The therapies of TOM work with ‘qi’, the inherent vital energy present in all living things and which flows through the body.  When qi is balanced and flows freely, the body is able to maintain health and heal itself.  Blocks or disruptions in the flow of qi leads to disharmony and imbalances which manifest as pain, sickness, and disease.  The different therapies of TOM all aim to restore and maintain the flow of blood, vital energy, and natural healing ability of the body.  TOM is a safe, natural, and effective way to strengthen the physical body, treat and prevent disease and sickness, control pain, calm the mind, and enhance overall wellbeing without negative side effects.  Neither TOM or Western medicine can “fix” or heal the body – but together they can create the conditions and environment whereby the body is able to heal itself.

As acupuncture and Traditional Oriental Medicine has become increasingly accepted and interest generated, more and more studies and research are being conducted.  Today the WHO and NIH have acknowledged that acupuncture is effective at treating a wide range of health conditions.

Stephane Willer, L.Ac.

I was born and raised in Paris, France where I attended University of Paris XIII and received my Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Physics. While attending university I was also training very heavily in martial arts, ultimately achieving my Korean black belt in Taekwondo. It was during this time where I discovered Traditional Oriental Medicine. In Traditional Oriental Medicine I found a fusing of medicine, science, and oriental philosophy, I loved it. Since that point, I was singularly focused on one thing, I had to study Acupuncture and TOM.

The desire to pursue my passion, to learn and practice TOM, led me to pack up my life and move to California to study at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine where I received my Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine. While studying here I fell in love with Southern California and am happy I have been able to make San Diego my home after finishing school.

Today, I am a California Licensed Acupuncturist L.Ac. with my practice located in La Mesa, California. I am deeply fulfilled helping people transform their lives to achieve better and richer living through improved health. As your acupuncturist, I work together with you to resolve the conditions that block you on your path to optimal health and happiness. My holistic approach seeks to treat underlying conditions not just symptoms and to facilitate and support your personal wellness goals. I look forward to working with you personally.
